Over the last seven years Alistair Whyte, one of Australia’s foremost ceramic artists, has been working with a community in a remote region of Vanuatu that exists mainly on subsistence farming.
He was invited by the community to come and teach them pottery, and after his initial visit has gone back several times, taking with him other potters, to help them establish a pottery cottage industry. Funded in part by AUSAID Alistair has sent out a kick wheel by yacht and has gone out to run a series of workshops, and eventually building a wood-fired kiln, teaching the locals this ancient craft.
Proceeds will go to the South West Bay Pottery Project in Vanuatu organised by one of Australia’s finest ceramic Artists, Alistair Whyte.
